There is no question that disposable nappies make up 50% of the trash of a one child family in the UK. They account for 4% of the total waste in Britain’s landfills. It is amazing to think that these things take up to five hundred years to degrade and release all kinds of toxic chemicals in the process. Many families have switched to cloth nappies, but that may not be a practical solution for many people. A line of biodegradable nappies has come to the rescue. You can have convenience and still be eco friendly.

Because these nappies are not mass produced as are regular disposables, they tend to be more expensive, but as the demand increases, the price is beginning to moderate. Many people who use cloth nappies like to use these when they are on the go with their babies. The nappy disposal bags and baby wipes make the whole process easier. You can just toss everything away in the disposal bag which is also biodegradable. The other factor that takes a bit of getting used to is that they are typically beige in color instead of the pristine white we are accustomed to. When choosing a biodegradable nappy, be sure that all parts are biodegradable. This is not true of all brands. Some are only partially biodegradable.

The difference in these and other biodegradable nappies is that the soiled pads can be safely flushed. You can compost the pads that are wet and flush the others.
