Natural Baby Wipes

I guess the most natural baby wipes would be a washcloth and warm water. It definitely works, but may not always be convenient when you’re on the go. If you are concerned about the ingredients in commercially available baby wipes, check out a few options for natural baby wipes.

Bum Boosa has plant based biodegradable baby wipes. They are made with bamboo fabric which is highly sustainable. That is the truth. I have some growing in my front yard and you cannot kill that stuff with a blowtorch. It’s great that someone has figured out how to make fabric and other things with bamboo and it soft, not scratchy as you might think. These wipes are delicately scented with lavender and sweet orange essential oils.

Elements Natural has developed the first 100% natural and compostable fabric baby wipes. The fabric is plant based, chemical and chlorine free. A package of 80 will set you back about $5.99, so you can have something more convenient to use when you’re on the go with your baby.

If you are really industrious, you can make your own natural baby wipes. You’ll know exactly what is in them and if you use flannel or terry cloth, they can be washed right along with cloth diapers. One article I read suggested cutting up some of the many receiving blankets you’ll receive when your baby is born. You can always go to the fabric store and purchase flannel by the yard. You could also use small terry towels or washcloths.

You will need a container with a tight fitting lid or a spray bottle. For the solution you will need 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 2 tablespoons of a natural baby wash. You can submerge your wipes in the solution and keep the lid tightly closed or put the solution in a spray bottle and spray the wipes as you use them. The downside to keeping them submerged is that because there are no preservatives, they may develop a musty smell and need to be changed every day. Alternatively you could just make enough for a day at a time. There are a number of recipes for the solution on the internet.
