Organic Baby Sunscreen

We all know how damaging the long terms effects of sun exposure can be and pediatricians recommend that if sun exposure cannot be avoided in children less than six months of age, a natural sunscreen should be used. Infants have very thin and sensitive skin and you should try to find a non-chemical option for sun protection. Organic baby sunscreen is not as hard to find as you might imagine.

Badger Organic Baby Sunscreen has two formulas offering SPF 15 and SPF 30 protection as well as a soothing after sun lotion made with cocoa and shea butters combined with aloe and jojoba oils. Jason Sunbrella line includes SPF 45 natural sun block creams for babies and children as well as adults. They are all chemical free and provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Theses should be applied 15-30 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied after swimming and towel drying. These all natural formulas are made with antioxidant acai extract to help protect against free radical damage.

Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are natural mineral sunscreens. They are often used in combination with various plant extracts to make natural sunscreens and sun blocks. I must confess that I was skeptical when I started using a mineral make up. It also claimed to protect me from the sun. I have very fair skin and was pleasantly surprised to find that it did offer sun protection. When choosing an all natural sunscreen for your child; look for words such as pediatrician confirmed, hypoallergenic, scent free, paraben free, or clinically tested on the label. In general when using sunscreen on babies under six months of age; it is best to consult your pediatrician for a recommendation.

If you are committed to using all natural products for your child and yourself; it only makes sense to choose an organic baby sunscreen to add to your skin care arsenal. It is a fact that severe sunburn in childhood contributes greatly to the development of skin cancer.
